10/3/03 Early Show Transcript - By Lexie
Harry - You would think that being a veteran scout master would be an asset for a contestant on "Survivor - Pearl Islands." Unfortunately, for Cincinnati Boy Scout Leader Lillian Morris - her skills didn't convince her fellow tribe mates to keep her around.
Lillian's voice over from last night's show - We decided last night we needed some food - so I told the guys that I was going to go fishing - and they said - you need two people-. Well they are still in bed -
Ryan O. Voiceover- A little bit ago- Lill went fishing by herself- I think we need to be more of a team- and we're still doing this separateness stuff and I'm tired of it.
Andrew's Voiceover- How are we doing?
Lillian's VO - I lost the hook.
Andrew's VO- I am shocked- actually. A deer in the headlights because she is a boy scout troop leader and knows many different knots, including the fisherman's knot.
( shows Jeff trying to put out Lillian's torch - twice)
Jeff's VO - Let's try that again - they don't want you to go
Lillian's VO - Yeah right
Jeff's VO - It's time for you to go.
Harry Smith - What was it like, Lillian, when you were voted off?
Lillian - It was heartbreaking- You expect to go to the end to win that Million Dollars- but I am realistic - I'm glad I wasn't the first - But, it happened - it happened
Harry - Yeah- Kind of a tough go out there for you in that tribe- wasn't it? Did you feel like you had any friends at all?
Lillian- Yeah I had a friend in Ryan - Ryan is my bud. I don't know if it was because he was so close to the ages of so many of my boys and you know the size of so many of my kids.
Harry - Yeah
Lill - But -
Harry- Once he was gone?
Lill- Once he was gone, I felt very lonely and very out of place.
Harry - Did age have something to do with it? Because you are the oldest contestant.
Lill- I am the oldest - I believe maybe it's because I'm not as cute as Darrah ( laughs) - She is a lovely girl - she really is a nice young person
Harry - We were watching at home last night - we're thinking you, maybe Darrah - I thought why are they all picking on you?
Lill - Well, I don't know if they were picking on me. I think it was a hard decision for a couple of the people- Everyone of those young people treated me very kindly and with respect.
Harry - Yeah
Lill- I don't believe any of them said anything really mean to me or about me. - Which is wonderful - and I'm thrilled.
Harry - What about Andrew? - Because there is a scene last night and kind of there is a quiet walk in woods with you and Andrew and it looks like he's kind of saddling up to you a little bit and then what happened?
Lill- I think Andrew is just trying to keep his tribe together. I think he's trying to pacify everyone. - We got these beefy- bulky young men.
Harry- yeah
Lill- they like the young girls and that is fine - I mean would you rather cuddle up to me or Darrah? - Don't answer that - That's okay ( laughs)
Harry- You know how to make a fire- (laughs) I might stick with you !!
Lill (laughing ) That's one way I can keep you warm!
(both laugh)
Lill- Now Darrah - she learned and she worked along side of us.
Harry - Yeah
Lill - It was just - I just - I couldn't not ...
we went 9 days without any fish and I just decided I am going fishing. We can't keep laying around here and sleeping- I'm not one to sleep during the day.
Harry- Not a lay arounder?
Lill- You get up early in the morning and you go and get it done.
Harry - Let's take some phone calls - Karen from Ohio is on the phone-
Lill - Good Morning Karen -
Lill- Another Ohio - thank you
Karen- Lill how are you doing this morning?
Lill- I'm thrilled - but I don't know if I want to be in this seat that the moment.
Harry - What is your question?
Karen- My question is - were they any romantic relationships developing in the tribe?
Lill- Well, let me tell you. ( laughs) There were good relationships. There were friendships and I'm sure those friendships are existing to this day ummmm. As far as anything......ummmm (clears her throat)
Harry - You are such a good Scout - You aren't going to dish - are you??
Lill - I don't kiss and tell- even if I'm watching other kissing and telling- I mean, kissing - I'm not going to bash anybody. That's just not in my character.
Harry - let's take another call - Troy In New Hampshire
Lill - Good Morning Troy Another New Englander - I'm originally from Maine
Troy- That's cool - How are you doing?
Lill- I'm doing fine- thank you
Troy- We were very sorry to see you voted off last night - it was very unfortunate.
Lill - Thank you
Troy- No problem- Did anybody every try to initiate you as a leader? Because for some reason, people thought Andrew was the commanding presence - but you have all of the outdoor experience - Did anybody try to initiate you as he leader of the tribe?
Harry - good question
Lill - yes it is
Lill - My beloved husband of 30 years, he told me Now Lill - when you leave this place and you go on that island - you leave that Scout Master hat at home and the attitude of a scout master and the leadership - do as I say type attitude.
and that is what I did. I was more than willing to be one of the followers and even in my troop - I can't always be the leader - So, No - I was fine. And, Andrew did the best he could with who he had.
Harry- Yeah - but Did you think the fishhook thing did you end, thought? You went fishing and they all said go with somebody else.
Lill- but you have to remember Harry, we had 3 fishhooks
Harry- Right
Lill- and 3 different people lost the fishhooks - now I am not going to sit here and say the other two were lost by so and so and so -
Harry - Yeah
Lill- But I do know the fisherman's know the fisherman's knot
Harry- Well not enough apparently
Lill- well not enough -I think it broke.
Harry- Jennifer you are on the air - Real quick
Lill - Hello Hello Jennifer
Jennifer - Good Morning - My 7 year old daughter Madison is in the scouting program
Madison in the background - (saying Lillian you are my favorite Lill )
Lillian - Hello Madison
Jennifer - she says you are her favorite
Jennifer- Did you find that being a Scout leader put you at an advantage or a disadvantage on the island?
Harry - very good question - Real quick
Lill- Well, I had some skills that I could use, I could make a fire in the pouring rain if I needed to, And, I think it also taught me patience, if you work with a lot of young people- teenagers - you do learn patience.
Harry- You're a good contestant
Lill- Thank you - it's a pleasuring meeting you Harry.
Harry - Thanks Lill
