Alicia's Early Show interview - transcribed by Lexie
(Clips from last night's Q & A Reward Challenge where Alicia was voted on by the group "someone who thinks they are smart- and the person who does not belong on All-Stars" - followed up by Jeff snuffing out Alicia's torch.)
Rene Syler - Wow - Alicia - Good Morning.
Alicia - Good Morning
Rene- You know they say that many truths are said in jest.. so let me ask you did you mean it that you said you "didn't like these people anymore?"
Alicia - Ummm.. I did mean it - absolutely. You know what .. I was on my own basically from the beginning of the game. And, I think it's because I'm an out spoken person. And, everybody was comfortable allowing Rob - Boston Rob to be in the drivers seat. So ..you know I wasn't and that was obvious. And, I think Sue and I - Sue Hawk and I - the two most outspoken people- it kinda set us apart and when she left the game- I was really on my own and I knew that so I just played the hand that I was dealt.
Rene- Do you think that maybe that would mean that you would want to hang back a little bit - maybe not be so outspoken - because of course, we remember when you were on Survivor 3 ...
Alicia - I'm sure everybody remembers that (laughs) and I'm sure they were thinking about that and I did kinda hold back a little bit. I stopped, you know, disagreeing with Boston Rob as much as I did and believe me there were so many times where I had something that I wanted to say. But I knew it wasn't a good idea to keep my mouth shut and I did for as long as I possibly could.
Rene- Was there ever a time that you thought - I might get voted off- because initially I think - we saw your face last night - you were stunned.
Alicia - right right
Rene - and initially you thought it might be Rupert.
Alicia - right - well you know what .. I think that I was vulnerable throughout the entire game and I knew that if we had lost a challenge and went to Tribal Council - I was going to be in trouble there was no doubt about it. So.. winning those challenges was really very important. I really have to give respect to Boston Rob because he was such a physical strength out there.
Rene - yeah but what about Shii Ann ? Because Shii Ann won when the chips were down.
Alicia - right right - that's right
Rene- She had to win or she was on her way out. You guys made that clear.
Alicia - of course we did and she knew that - this wasn't a shocker to her. But umm.. so Shii Ann wins this challenge last night ... she's a little exuberant ...
Rene - and you say to her - hey sister not so fast...
Alicia - yeah be careful ...
Rene- because you still have to live with us..
Alicia - yeah that's right .. I mean first of all when your back is against the wall - you can do a lot of things. and when you know your back is against the wall - it makes it a little easier to endure suffering like that..
Rene- right
Alicia-- but I told her you know.. it felt like she had been trying to find a way into that tribe for days. And she didn't want to separate herself -she wanted to find the chink in the armor .. and then all the sudden she wins and she points and like sticks it right in our face and I'm thinking...
Rene- but don't you think - you don't think that was just because she was... celebrating a little bit..
Alicia- everybody celebrates - but when you point in the people's faces that were trying to vote you out - you are separating yourself even more.
Rene- I want to talk to you about Rob - the two of you made this deal
(Alicia laughing)
Rene- no love lost there..
Alicia - no
Rene - let's take a look at this clip
Alicia - ok..
(Show a clip of Rob and Alicia hand shake - both promising not to ever write each others names down)
Rene - so he says I will never write your name down yet he writes your name down
Alicia- right
Rene- not only that he says he says "I've been waiting to do this since day three.
Alicia right - well ... I understand he had been waiting to do that since day three because I'm the only one that would ever go against him or stand up to him. And, I actually felt good hearing him hold up my name saying that, because I realized at that point - he knew the entire game he couldn't manipulate me, which is why I got voted out. Everybody else followed him but
me.
Rene - so that's how you see it that he is sorta the puppet master and everybody else is just following along.
Alicia- everybody else is comfortable in their situation allowing him to do the dirty work, and I never was. And he knew that. So.. but remember this, I did say I would never write his name down, and I made that promise.
Rene - Your temper was one of the things that you said you wanted to get a handle on before I got out there. Did you think that you did - or did you kinda shot yourself in the foot - when you said yesterday when these people said what they said about you that you didn't deserve to be an All Star that you thought you were smarter than you really were. And then you didn't really want to talk to anybody - you kinda pouted .. and Amber said "she's being a big baby"
Alicia- right - well you know what - everybody deals with things differently and when I'm not happy I like to be by myself. I like to just deal with it.. I don't really want to have people coming up and stroking me. Especially people I don't appreciate... I don't need their reassurance. So for me, it was like I needed some alone time.And, you know your out there and you just can't get that alone time. But you know..it is what it is.. I am who I am, I'm very outspoken, and I'm always going to be that way. It doesn't make me great at Survivor, but it makes me very successful in life. And so , there you have it.
Rene- so Alicia the maverick
Alicia - that's right!

Back with Gretchen Carlson doing the interview- More now on last night Survivor surprise Shii Ann came though with a must win immunity challenge ...
Gretchen - Alicia welcome back ..
Alicia - thank you
Gretchen - you know Shii Ann surprising she wins this immunity last night as we discussed earlier and yet she comes to you to try to form an alliance at one point in time.. You had nothing to do with that one.
Alicia - you know it seemed like she was coming to me to form an alliance, that's not what she was doing. What Shii Ann was doing most of the time was going into specific groups and saying things like "I heard this news" or I have news for you about this and this person said that. That's just causing trouble, that's not making an alliance. If she had come to me with a plan I would have been happy to listen. But when she sat down with me after - right before tribal council what she was saying was "I have news" and you know - no one is really telling her the truth - no body is leveling with her - she is in a desperate situation and all she's going to do is spread paranoia so I just didn't want to listen to it
Gretchen - let's go to some phone calls- first we have Vicky from Florida on the line with her question
Vicki - First of all props to you on how you played the game.
Alicia - oh thank you ..
Vicky - I love it.. but let me ask you this what did you find more difficult, the physical endurance or the mental stress?
Alicia - Well, I think I can deal with anything on a physical level, to tell you the truth. It was the mental stress. There are limitations when it comes to money, for me. And it's more moral limitations I have a problem with than the physical limitations. So it was dealing with the people and keeping my cool, which really was the hardest thing for me to do.
Gretchen - alright we have Michael now from Kentucky ..
Michael - Good Morning Alicia - we just love how you played the game - the question we have for you is - Why didn't you try to form an alliance with Rupert or one of the other people so you could stay on and get rid of Rob and Amber because they are controlling the game so much?
Alicia - You know that's a good question and I.. when Rupert and Jenna first came into the Chapera tribe when they had merged with us, I had gone to him and expressed my concern about Rob and Amber, I just planted that seed to see what he (Rupert) would do . then I realized that he had made an alliance with them and was very comfortable with it.So I knew I was going to be causing trouble for myself by trying to get him to side with me - I had a feeling he would go back to Rob and I would be out even quicker so I kept my cool or at least tried to.
Gretchen - Alright so Alicia - glad to see you here- and glad to see that you did survive even though you were ousted before the final million dollars- it's great to see you.
Alicia - thank you very much.
